An operating system for technology performance
Refined across two decades and hundreds of engagements, our methodologies form a proprietary, vendor-agnostic operating system for controlling technology cost, performance and delivery – unlocking more than a quarter of a billion dollars in commercial impact for our clients in the last ten years.

Complexity scales faster than control

Modern technology environments are sprawling systems of cloud platforms, SaaS applications, AI workloads and data pipelines. They change continuously, interact constantly and rarely behave independently.

In this environment, every code change, demand spike or new deployment introduces performance risk and exposes inefficiencies across the system. And this is why isolated optimisation fails.

Four core frameworks. One operating system for technology performance.

Most optimisation approaches base their recommendations on a fraction of the system – and therefore deliver a fraction of the value. Our frameworks analyse the full set of signals driving performance, cost and demand, creating a complete picture of how systems actually behave.

Together, these four methodologies form a vendor-agnostic operating system for controlling technology performance across all complex environments.

Each layer builds on the last, forming a unified system for turning technology complexity into controlled, optimised performance.

1. Get an edge on performance definition

Using the Seven Pillars of Software Performance methodology, we define the standard for system performance and cost efficiency.

Platform performance is often reduced to a measure of speed or uptime. But this provides just a narrow view of how efficiently and effectively a system operates. Our Seven Pillars of Software Performance methodology provides a multi-dimensional, technology-agnostic framework for consistently evaluating technology performance.

The seven pillars are:
Throughput and response time
Capacity
Efficiency
Scalability
Stability
Resilience
Instrumentation

Together, they capture how systems perform under scale and stress, how efficiently they consume resources and how reliably they operate over time. If any pillar is weak, performance, cost and reliability degrade.

The Technology Edge: Establish the performance standard that drives technology and business alignment.

2. Get an edge on system management

The Service Metric Framework standardises performance measurement across environments to expose the root causes of inefficiency and performance issues.

Technology environments generate vast volumes of data, but little of it is structured in a way that explains how systems actually behave under real demand. Our Service Metric Framework models any software or hardware component against a consistent set of 16 core behavioural metrics.

These metrics provide a vendor-neutral view of:
- Demand behaviour
- Resource utilisation
- System performance
- Reliability and failure modes
- Cost-to-value

The Technology Edge: Create a single source of truth for system cost, demand and performance.

3. Get an edge on system behaviour

R0F (Shapes) applies behavioural modelling to monitor how systems respond to demand – identifying inefficiencies, scaling constraints and cost leakage at source.

Measurement alone does not explain behaviour. Our R0F (Shapes) methodology analyses how system metrics evolve over time and under changing demand conditions, identifying deviations from expected behavioural patterns.

Taking the 16 core metrics from the Service Metric Framework, we analyse their ‘shape’:
Across short-, medium- and long-term horizons
Against expected behavioural patterns
In relation to changes in demand, performance and resource usage

When actual behaviour deviates from expected ‘shape’, it reveals:
Inefficiency
Capacity constraints
Cost leakage
Scaling risk
Performance degradation

This provides the foundation for targeted, system-level optimisation, shifting teams from reactive fixes to sustainable data-driven interventions based on how systems actually behave.

The Technology Edge: Reveal the drivers of cost, constraint and performance degradation under real demand.

4. Get an edge on execution capability

Maturity Assessments benchmark an organisation’s ability to execute, embed and sustain optimisation across complex technology environments.
At Capacitas, we recognise that the success of any optimisation – and whether it becomes a sustained capability – depends on whether organisations are sufficiently equipped to turn insight into enduring advantage.

We currently have six core Maturity Assessments assessing execution capability across:
DevOps
FinOps
Quality Engineering
SRE
Performance
Cloud Readiness

When maturity is low, optimisation stalls. When it is high, it compounds. This provides a clear view of where capability is enabling or limiting the ability to turn optimisation into enduring enterprise value.

The Technology Edge: Build the ability to consistently deliver and sustain performance improvement at scale.
